The Horsley Women's Calendar

The Horsley Women's Calendar is a calendar made to benefit the Rwandan women. The money raised from the calendar goes to Survivors Fund (or SURF) which supports women in Rwanda. In 2004, it was the 10th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide which took place between in 1994. In 2005, a group of women in Horsley, Gloucestershire, England have posed for photographs to raise awareness for the Rwandan women. The genocide was a mass slaughter of Tutsi people by the Hutu people. During the genocide, around 1 million people in Rwanda were killed. The victims of this genocide were shot, blown up, or even hacked to death. The Horsley Women’s Calendar was made to ensure that those who had lost their lives were never forgotten. Survivors Fund provides medical support to the survivors of the genocide. The Survivors Fund helps in medical support, building shelter and skills training for the children of those killed in the genocide. Many women were deliberately infected with HIV/AIDS, and the Survivors Fund helps in providing antiretroviral drugs to these women. The calendar was made as a remembrance for those killed in the genocide in Rwanda, to make sure that something like that does not happen again.
